Two wonderful holiday cottages in the

heart of the North Yorkshire Moors

Built soon after George Stephenson constructed the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 1836, these two nineteenth century cottages are situated in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors.

Constructed of Yorkshire stone, the cottages have been modernised, yet a great deal of care and attention has been made to preserve their original style and charm.

Amidst beautiful scenery, possibly the finest valley in England surrounded by open moorland and forest hill sides.

Platelayers Holiday Cottages are an ideal base for walking, touring or simply relaxing.

“Marvellous! Splendid cottage! We had a fantastic week’s holiday with our friends. Lots to do. Lots to see. Lovely walks. Thank you for making our stay a pleasure. See you again.”

Wildlife & Tranquility

Apart from the steam trains trundling passed Platelayers Cottages on the NYMR line from Pickering to Whitby, the wildlife is probably the only other thing you will hear.

During daylight hours, don’t be suprised to hear woodpeckers hammering in the forest, pheasants, cuckoos, jays, and buzzards, calling… you may even hear the stags barking!

Once the sun goes down the nocturnal owls, nightjars and bats break the silence.

We have bags of bird nuts in our tuck shop for you to feed the birds in the cottage gardens – you’ll be suprised by the variety of birds this will attract.

Some of the cheeky squirrels may even come and feed from your hand!

Relaxation is guaranteed with only the wildlife for company

All aboard!

The famous North York Moors Railway (NYMR) runs parallel with Platelayers Cottages, literally a few metres away from the front door! The steam trains run the daily return journey over the moors, from the market town of Pickering to the coastal fishing town of Whitby.

Levisham Station is just a 10 minute walk along the forest trail, where you can board one of the historic trains for a day out. Enjoy a day in the bustling market town of Pickering or take in some sea air, followed by fish & chips, in Whitby.
